Plan with Precision: The Power of Capacity Visibility

Written by Vinnie Ramaciotti | Dec 18, 2025 9:30:01 AM

In our last blog on self-service scheduling, we showed how giving users direct control over scheduling reduces friction and accelerates delivery. But scheduling control alone is not enough. Teams also need visibility. That’s why, in this new Juriba DPC release, we are introducing a modern Capacity Report, bridging the gap between user autonomy and strategic oversight.

The hidden cost of poor visibility

When capacity is unclear, several problems surface:

  • Project Coordinators struggle to answer: How much capacity is used? How much is left? Which paths or teams are nearing overbooking?

  • Conflicts and bottlenecks emerge late.

  • Teams scramble to shift work or reprioritize.

  • Decision-making becomes reactive, not strategic.

McKinsey research shows that lack of transparency and poor planning are among the top reasons IT projects run over budget and miss deadlines, directly increasing cost and risk for organizations¹.

What the new Capacity Report gives you

Redesigned for the new DPC UI, the Capacity Report provides essential clarity. Key features include:

  • Flexible Time Views: Toggle between Day, Week, Month to see granular or aggregated perspectives.

  • Path Filtering: Focus on particular migration paths, capacity units, or buckets.

  • Saved Filters: Save combinations you use often (e.g., “Next 30 days, Morning slot, London unit”) and load them instantly.

  • Exception Indicators / Warning Column: The report surfaces exceptions via icons. Some conditions flagged include:

    • No slot assigned

    • Invalid path, team, or capacity unit

    • Slot outside date or time range

    • Over-capacity

These features together give Project Coordinators a real-time view into capacity usage, warnings, and stress points, eliminating the need to stitch together data manually.

The value you get

Clear visibility into capacity isn’t just nice to have - it unlocks measurable benefits:

  • Better planning, fewer surprises: Identify capacity constraints ahead of time and take corrective action with margin.

  • Efficiency gains: Teams spend less time hunting down data and more time executing.

  • Reduced waste: By spotting unused or misaligned capacity early, organizations can minimize wasted effort and redirect resources to higher-priority work.

  • More predictable delivery: Projects meet timelines more reliably when overbooking and strain are surfaced early.

These impacts translate to less waste, fewer emergency adjustments, better alignment across teams, and more confident planning overall.

Scheduling + visibility = balance

Think of it as a dual system:

  • Self-service scheduling gives users the power to choose when tasks get scheduled.

  • Capacity Report oversight ensures that those choices happen within safe capacity boundaries.

Together, they balance autonomy and safety, giving organizations scale without chaos.
